Democrats and pro-death supporters in Texas are going berserk over the ending of a filibuster carried out by State Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth. Texas law on filibusters requires that the person stay on topic and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst halted the filibuster after determining Sen. Davis had strayed off the topic when she talked about a sonogram bill passed in 2011 and how the new abortion restrictions only compounded the anti-abortion laws in Texas.
To listen to them, you would think that Texas has banned all abortions.
“If this passes, abortion would be virtually banned in the state of Texas, and many women could be forced to resort to dangerous and unsafe measures,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund and daughter of the late former Texas governor Ann Richards.
What the bill does is ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy. And require clinics that perform the procedure to upgrade their facilities and be classified as ambulatory surgical centers. Also, doctors would be required to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles. This doesn’t sound like endangering a woman’s health to me. After the Kermit Gosnell incident in Philadelphia, it sounds like a step forward in protecting a woman’s health.
Bottom line, women still have the “right to choose” to either keep their baby, or not, for the first five months of the nine month term. They make that choice every minute of every day. Including the choice to carry their baby full term after five months. The bill does not ban abortions.
Abortion always has been the holy sacrament of the Democrat party, and the fuss about not being able to abort right up to and including birth, like it is their constitutional right to claim that their baby has no protection under the same constitution, is proof of it. In fact, Democrats and President Obama are in favor of retro-active abortion. No rights for you, baby boy. No rights for you, baby girl.
