Learning From Mistakes

Speaking of learning from mistakes, Thomas Sowell takes that theme and covers a range of teachable moments. From anti-trust laws to lawlessness, economics, immigration, and more.

endofstory

We all make mistakes and some of us learn from them. What is even better is to learn from other people’s mistakes, where they pay for those mistakes while we learn free of charge.

Many Americans who say that we should learn from other people, especially Europeans, mean that we should imitate what they did. That may make those who talk this way feel superior to other Americans. But let us never forget that the most disastrous ideologies of the 20th century — Communism, Fascism and Nazism — all originated in Europe. So did both World Wars.

More recently, Europe has been belatedly discovering how unbelievably stupid it was to import millions of people from cultures that despise Western values, and which often promote hatred toward Western people.

Maybe that is a mistake that we can think about when Congress finally decides to do something about our open borders and our immigration laws that we refuse to enforce.    . . . . more

Free Loot-and-Burn Night Expires

Baltimore recovering after the Free Loot-and-Burn night expires. The “curfew” goes into effect tonight.

It was amazing to watch the live TV coverage last night. Amazing to watch the police lines withdrawal from the literal “hot spot” of activity, instead of taking action to stop the looting.

The business owners knew the scenario. They said if the police move away, the looters will move in. And, that’s exactly what happened.

And the sorry thing is, we’ve seen this before in Ferguson. No police intervention. Let them burn themselves out. Treating them like and out-of-control two-year old having a temper tantrum. Letting them cry themselves out. Only these tantrums are attacking police, fire fighters, and robbing others of their homes and livelihood. And instead of condemnation. the politicians and race grievance industry makes excuses for them.

They have no courage to discuss the real problem. The failure of decades of “Democrat policies and leadership.”

Too Much Power?

A new Rasmussen poll shows that 62% feel the government has too much power, and,  that too many of their fellow countrymen are dependent on the government for financial support.

In another decade, this would be seen as bad news by the administration in charge. A mood, and a trend that needed correction. But not today. This is a testament to the success of the current administration in the remaking, the fundamental change, of America. That the American people don’t see it as a success does not matter to President Obama.

Clinton Cash, It’s All In The Family

Sacrificing strategic natural resources in exchange for cash and campaign contributions is not new to the Clintons. Bill helped China, with scarce low-sulfur coal, when he was president. Hillary did it with uranium, helping Russia.

After Bill Clinton’s second run for President, it was learned of a Chinese connection in illegal campaign contributions. Back then, Bill Clinton created a 1.8 million acre monument in southern Utah. On its face, an innocuous move, making environmentalists (also contributors) happy. Everybody feels good about a new park. What wasn’t mentioned was the coal reserves located in that 1.8 million acres.

The effect of creating that ‘monument’ was to take our country’s largest deposit of low-sulphur coal off of the market and out of bounds from mining. Now a quick mineralogical lesson. There are only two known low-sulphur coal reserves in the world, one of which is under this land in Utah that was blocked off by Clinton and the other of which is in China. We then see the Rhiady family, acting as intermediaries between Clinton and the Chinese government, which was making illegal donations to the Clinton campaign.

Obama Lies, Media Watchdog Dead

I’ve figured out what the worst job in the United States is. And Mike Rowe has never been there. It is so bad that it almost takes a village to do it.

The worst job is the poor saps in The White House charged with coming up with ways to convince the American people that Obama and his State Department are foreign policy geniuses. But that’s not all. They have to do it in such a way that, with cooperation of the media, the American people won’t see that he is lying.

And that is becoming impossible. Whether you choose to believe what you see is another matter. But I live in Realville.

bibi-was-right

Remember when Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke before the a joint session of Congress, and said how Obama’s wannabe Iran plan was nothing more than a path to a nuclear bomb? Remember when he said that Iran was mere months away (2 to 3) from having the material to make one? Remember how Obama, echoed by the media, said Netanyahu was wrong? Iran was more than a year from “breakout.” And, that this deal would take Iran 10-15 years before they would have that ability. Remember that? Do you remember when he praised Sec. of State John Kerry (who served in Vietnam) for forging a historic agreement and, that Iran was not going to have a bomb under that (hope and change) agreement?

Thomas Sowell describes Obama’s Iran so-called deal this way . . .

By abandoning virtually all its demands for serious restrictions on Iran’s nuclear bomb program, the Obama administration has apparently achieved the semblance of a preliminary introduction to the beginning of a tentative framework for a possible hope of an eventual agreement with Iran.

Well, the jig is up. And, the media hasn’t noticed. This, so his low-information voter base and other ideologues won’t be awakened.

Now, NOW, Obams is admitting exactly what Netanyahu had said. But that’s only the half of it. Obama knew at the time Netanyahu made that speech that he was right. That was days and weeks before Obama was saying just the opposite.

Doesn’t that our president has no compulsion to tell the truth on the international, and national stage, make you feel just a bit disgusted? Embarrassed for your country? And, are you feeling safe and secure knowing that his lies now translate to a game of thermonuclear war with Iran, a State sponsor of terrorism?

His candidacy was a lie. He lied to sell his agenda to America. He won ‘Lie of the Year’ for Obamacare. Now it’s not just Americans who are at risk because of his lies. It’s the United States, Israel, and the rest of the civilized world.

Hillary Losing Votes From The Graveyard

If this is a sign of things to come, this could be game changer for Democrats. Not so much that Republicans will pick up the dead vote, but that Democrats will lose the dead vote.

A North Carolina man made a last political stand with his obituary, asking mourners to not vote for Hillary Clinton,

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Shriners Hospital for Children,” the obituary stated. “Also, the family respectfully asks that you do not vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016. R.I.P. Granddaddy.

Hillary’s Platform

Monica Lewinsky’s boyfriend’s wife for president? Because she is always on top of things . .

Rather than admit that what’s been going on these last six years has not worked, Hillary’s solution is, more of the same.

The Iran ‘Agreement’ Charade

thomas sowellBy abandoning virtually all its demands for serious restrictions on Iran’s nuclear bomb program, the Obama administration has apparently achieved the semblance of a preliminary introduction to the beginning of a tentative framework for a possible hope of an eventual agreement with Iran.

But even this hazy “achievement” may vanish like a mirage. It takes two to agree — and Iran has already publicly disputed and even mocked what President Obama says is the nature of that framework.

Had Iran wholeheartedly agreed with everything the Obama administration said, that agreement would still have been worthless, since Iran has already blocked international inspectors from its nuclear facilities at unpredictable times. The appearance of international control is more dangerous than a frank admission that we don’t really know what they are doing.

Rand Paul, Not The Maverick He Appears To Be

In foreign relations, Sen. Paul has shown the ability to change his mind. Good thing, given the global mess the current  occupant of The White House has created, if not allowed to melt down.

Economically speaking? Not so much.

2016 presidential candidate Kerry Bowers explains how Paul has a ways to go when it comes to turning this country around. His press release below.

Kerry Bowers Says Senator Opening New Doors to Cronyism

Henderson, NV, 7 April 2015 – The Kerry Bowers for President Committee released the following remarks from the Committee’s candidate in response to Senator Rand Paul’s presidential candidacy announcement.

“Today, I welcome Senator Rand Paul as the anticipated 57th Republican to register with the Federal Election Commission as a presidential candidate for the election year 2016. It is my hope that he will rise to the standard of specificity I have incorporated into my platform as he begins to lay out his plans to achieve the vision he has briefly described for America. I am, however, greatly disappointed with his campaign announcement remarks in which he either directly states or implies the intent to continue the IRS, income taxes and corporate taxes; these in addition to newly proposed avenues for cronyism and tax discrimination that he calls ‘economic freedom zones.’ What I am hearing in his remarks is not a focus on the restoration of government’s federal character nor that of State sovereignty as I have called for in my platform, but a continuation of the governments’ monopoly over the States through a heavy-handed national character that, among other undesirable consequences,  decides who shall and shall not benefit from the labors of all Americans. I look forward to the possibility of debate with the Senator and the other candidates in the ever-expanding field of Republicans as we move forward to the primaries.”
