Obama’s Next Straw Man Argument For Gun Control

President Obama made his argument today like this, “We don’t want our police to be out gunned.” Well, who could disagree with that? Especially when I’ve seen police with full auto weapons, shotguns, and multiple magazines. But that’s not the problem. Thugs aren’t going around robbing and shooting police.

The community organizer won’t acknowledge that law-abiding Americans don’t want to be out gunned by criminals. That, and Americans don’t want the least competent entity in our lives, the federal government, taking away our choice and in fact making our choice for us, as to what kind of firearms and capability that we feel we need to keep our family and property safe.

Where my and my family’s safety and property are concerned, I’m pro-choice. Ironically, the federal government is pro-choice when it comes to taking lives, but not for saving lives.

February Is Black History Month

On November 2, 1983, Republican President Ronald Reagan signed the bill in the White House Rose Garden making the Birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. a national holiday. The bill first came up for a vote in 1979, but the Democrat-controlled US House of Representatives refused to pass the legislation. The first national celebration of the holiday in honor of Dr. King took place on January 20, 1986 and is celebrated on the 3rd Monday in January. In his remarks on signing the bill Reagan said: “Dr. King had awakened something strong and true, a sense that true justice must be colorblind, and that among white and black Americans, as he put it, ‘Their destiny is tied up with our destiny, and their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom; we cannot walk alone.'”

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Holiday Commission with the mission of overseeing the observance of the MLK holiday was created in the bill signed by Reagan.

In May 1989, Coretta Scott King was made a member of the commission for life by Republican President George H. W. Bush.

Democrats today are trying to usurp Dr. King’s legacy, when it was the Democrats who Dr. King was fighting.

Cable News Ratings, FOX Still #1

Once you get past headlines like Fox News Sees Its Worst Ratings Since 2001, and Fox News Ratings Hit 12-Year Demo Lows In January Cable News Figures, you might be curious, like I was, to see what that’s about? Come to find out, according to Nielsen Media Research, the ratings people, January marked “11 consecutive years of FNC’s dominance as the #1-rated cable news network.” What?

As a matter of fact, after the re-election of The One, I tuned out, not just to FOX, but to all of it. ‘It’ being the euphoria that the mainstream media was enjoying with the post-election burial of another Republican campaign, as well as the high of Obama’s second inauguration. It figures that the 51% wasn’t watching FOX either. They were watching everyone else. Turns out, that’s exactly what happened.

A MSNBC show Rachel Maddow jumped up from 14th a year ago to 10th in prime time. Beating FOX’s Studio B and the 11 p.m. re-run of The O’Reilly Factor. Just from reading the headlines and the progressive talking heads, you can see them jumping for joy. With the help of President Obama, they’ve finally buried FOX. Well, not.

JANUARY 2013 NIELSEN RATINGS (7 day week):

TOTAL DAY:

FNC: 1,029,000 total viewers; (209,000 in 25-54)

MSNBC: 491,000 total viewers; (160,000 in 25-54)

CNN: 448,000 total viewers; (135,000 in 25-54)

PRIMETIME”

FNC: 1,617,000 total viewers; (267,000 in 25-54)

MSNBC: 790,000 total viewers; (235,000 in 25-54)

CNN: 664,000 total viewers; (200,000 in 25-54)

Every once and awhile, it pays to look behind the headlines. Or just read it here.

Senate Says YES To Weapons Sales To Egypt

The U.S. Senate tabled the Paul Amendment to H.R.325, the debt limit bill. The amendment, introduced by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) would have prohibited the U.S. government from selling F-16 military aircraft, M1 tanks, and similar military weapons to the Egyptian egypt_arms_transfergovernment. The amendment failed, 79-19.

On the motion to table the amendment, which effectively kills it, all Democrats with the exception of two, voted Yes. Two Democrats did not vote; John Kerry and Patty Murray.

Voted YES: Republicans that voted with the Democrats in favor of the weapons transfer were: Lamar Alexander, Kelly Ayotte, John Barrasso, Roy Blunt, Richard Burr, Saxby Chambliss, Thomas Coburn, Thad Cochran, Susan Collins, Bob Corker, Michael Enzi, Lindsey Graham, Orrin Hatch, John Hoeven, Mike Johanns, Ron Johnson, Mark Mark, John McCain, Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski, Robert Portman, Patrick Toomey, Roger Wicker

I contend that some of these Republicans are RINOs. But all of them have no spine to stand up for what is right, and acted recklessly with advanced military hardware. What is right is to not send these weapons to a country that hasn’t recovered from its last overthrow, and is poised to go through yet another one, where radical Islamists in the name of the Muslim Brotherhood are in power. To ignore that reality would be to our, and Israel’s, detriment. What is right is to wait until the dust settles and we have some assurance that these weapons would land into friendly hands, not making the Middle East a more dangerous place for our ally, Israel. The over 200 of these F-16’s that that Egypt already has is plenty for an unstable regime.

The following Republicans voted in favor of blocking the weapons transfer.

Voted NO: John Boozman, Daniel Coats, John Cornyn, Michael Crapo, Ted Cruz, Deb Fischer, Charles Grassley, Dean Heller, Mike Lee, Jerry Moran, Rand Paul, James Risch, Pat Roberts, Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, Jefferson Sessions, Richard Shelby, John Thune, David Vitter.

Fail, Economy Saved Or Created

It is amazing how the Left (which now includes the mainstream media), from the President on down, continues to speak about the ‘economic recovery.’ Even the slightly curious can verify that their talking points are even less credible today than they were 5 months ago. All economic indicators are down. And for the first time since the recession, GDP has gone negative.

gdp-fourth-quarter-2012

All of President Obama’s ‘investing’ has got us record unemployment, record annual deficits, record national debt, high food and energy costs, and higher health care costs. And while we watch the rise of radical Islam all over the world, the Federal Reserve continuing to monetize the debt and devalue the dollar, further depressing the world economy, the public’s attention is drawn towards reducing crime by telling citizens that they can no longer decide for themselves what kind of firearms they feel they need to protect their family and property. Left to their own devices, the administration will take your choice away.

The contracting economy is all the evidence you need to see that record government spending and borrowing is not making the economy better. All that, plus the attempts to tread on personal liberty, economic freedom, and the U.S. Constitution has been counter productive to everything the administration says, emphasis on ‘says,’ it wants to do.

It isn’t hard to imagine that if Obama was a Republican, the media would be writing stories about impeachment of the most incompetent President in our lifetime.

Surprise! Tax Hike Turned Into New Debt

Remember the tax hike that President Obama campaigned on? He said that the rich weren’t paying enough. That the top two percent needed to pay more, if we were ever going to begin to pay down that $16.4 Trillion debt.

Well guess what? His tax hike amounted to an extra (on paper anyway) $40 Billion. The Sandy Relief Bill he just signed for $50 Billion just spent all of that tax hike, and ADDED another $10 Billion to the debt that he, ostensibly, was going to start paying down. Understand that I don’t begrudge relief for the Sandy victims. They should have been helped at least as fast as the Katrina victims were. They were not. And nobody, including the media, seems to care. It is Obama’s blatant carnival Barker pitch, with a dash of class warfare and wealth envy thrown in, that I object to.

Do you feel like a sucker yet? Well I don’t because I didn’t vote for him. By now you should know that any increased revenue will only go towards more spending as long as The One is in The White House. Obama’s purpose was to raise the tax rates on the upper income brackets, period. It had nothing whatsoever to do with paying down the debt.

So Much To Celebrate?

The Media, President, and Sec. of State seen here 'playing the fiddle while Rome burns.'
The Media, President, and Sec. of State seen here ‘playing the fiddle while Rome burns.’

If you watched at least five minutes of either the Senate or House hearings on Benghazi, you know that Sec. of State Hillary Clinton is the best Sec. of State that the United States has ever had. Which explains why we may never know why four Americans were left to die at the Libyan Consulate in Benghazi.

What’s not to celebrate? Beginning with the Arab Spring which quickly turned in to the Arab Winter, the President and Sec. Clinton rightfully deserve credit for dispatching Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak so that the Muslim Brotherhood could fill the power vacuum. Words like ‘democracy’ were thrown around like Egypt had their own Declaration of Independence. Two years later, Egyptians are still rioting in the streets over their new dictator President who is also head of the Muslim Brotherhood terrorist organization. Now Egypt has a new opposition group called the ‘Black Bloc‘ who don’t like the lack of religious freedom, worsening economy from what started the protests two years ago, and the dictatorial leadership from President Mohammed Morsi.

Then there is continuing high unemployment, record national debt in proportions amounting to generational theft, and a stagnant economy here. High energy and food prices. High, and getting higher, health care costs. Record number of people receiving government help, and growing.

Then there is a worsening Middle East, Syria in flames and alQaeda moving in, Iran nuclear, Northern Africa being overrun by alQaeda, North Korea nuclear, our Ambassador and three other Americans murdered by terrorists in Benghazi.

So much here to celebrate that there is speculation that, just like President Obama, Hillary Clinton may get a Nobel Peace Prize too! The interview on 60 Minutes even hinted at Sec. Clinton running for President in 2016. And why not? It is easier to throw gasoline on the fire by blaming everyone and anyone else than it is to accept responsibility for it and put it out.

That Pesky FOX

progressive

The president told TNR editorFrank Foer and owner Chris Hughes that “One of the biggest factors is going to be how the media shapes debates.”

The media can either help break or uphold partisan gridlock, the president said, adding that “If a Republican member of Congress is not punished on Fox News or by Rush Limbaugh for working with a Democrat on a bill of common interest, then you’ll see more of them doing it.”

Translation: My presidency would be a lot easier if FOX News would only bend over too!

FOX is the target because presenting both sides of a story necessarily includes a side the President does not like. He prefers a media that not only reports, but pushes his side exclusively. That doesn’t reshape debate. That eliminates debate. But his version of the first amendment doesn’t stop there. It also includes discouraging Democrats from appearing on FOX News to reach that audience.

Greta Van Susteren has already written a critical blog post: “Apparently President Obama wants his usual media pass and Fox challenges his policies – which happens to be the media’s job.” She also accused Democrat brass of intimidation: “Some Democrats have told me that they want to come on Fox to discuss issues but they get heat from their Leadership for appearing on Fox.  Does President Obama know that? So which Party is intimidating its members?”

Gun Goddesses Ladies Shoot

Topics like this didn’t used to be political in nature. But through no fault of lawful gun owners everywhere, anything to do with a gun has become a political issue.

In the interest of gun safety, on February 9, 2013, there is an event at the Escambia River Gun Club for women only that you should know about. Looks like a good chance for ladies to get some expert experience and advice from NRA Certified Pistol Instructors.

It’s The Constitution Stupid

Dianne Feinstein
The body language says it all.

Here we go again. Pick out the enemy, isolate it, demagogue it if that’s what it takes to win your point. It works whether it’s nationalizing health care or winning elections. It’s a tactic outlined in Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals and explains to a ‘T’ why this administration does what it does. This time the subject is controlling guns and everything associated with it. If you’re not for gun control, then you must want school children to die. The low-information crowd eat that up and, with this administration, there’s an unlimited amount of ‘feed’ to be had.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who’s leading the push to restore an assault weapon ban, acknowledged on Sunday that the effort faces tough odds to pass Congress and she blamed the nation’s largest gun-rights group.

This time the perceived enemy is the NRA. That’s only because they can’t run against the founding fathers for writing the second amendment. They can’t openly run against the Constitution. Just like they couldn’t openly run against ‘health care.’ So they made health insurance companies the bad guy and campaigned against them. The result of the current gun control push, if successful, is likely to end up with the same disastrous results as the Affordable Care Act. Where everything it was promised to do failed.
