Pearl Harbor Attacked 73 Years Ago Today

“A Date Which Will Live in Infamy”: FDR Asks for a Declaration of War

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941, stunned virtually everyone in the United States military. Japan’s carrier-launched bombers found Pearl Harbor totally unprepared. President Franklin Roosevelt quickly addressed Congress to ask for a declaration of war as illustrated in this audio excerpt. Although he never mentioned Europe or the fact that Germany had by then declared war on the United States, the Pearl Harbor attack allowed him to begin the larger intervention in the European war he had long wanted.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt: Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The United States was at peace with that nation, and, at the solicitation of Japan, was still in conversation with its government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Pacific. Indeed, one hour after Japanese air squadrons had commenced bombing in the American island of Oahu, the Japanese ambassador to the United States and his colleague delivered to our secretary of state a formal reply to a recent American message. While this reply stated that it seemed useless to continue the existing diplomatic negotiations, it contained no threat or hint of war or armed attack.

It will be recorded that the distance of Hawaii from Japan makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the Japanese government has deliberately sought to deceive the United States by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Hawaiian Islands has caused severe damage to American naval and military forces. I regret to tell you that very many American lives have been lost. In addition, American ships have been reported torpedoed on the high seas between San Francisco and Honolulu.

Yesterday the Japanese government also launched as attack against Malaya.

Last night Japanese forces attacked Hong Kong.

Last night Japanese forces attacked Guam.

Last night Japanese forces attacked the Philippine Islands.

Last night Japanese forces attacked Wake Island.

And this morning the Japanese attacked Midway Island.

Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area. The facts of yesterday and today speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.

As commander in chief of the Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us. . .

And everyone thought that we would never see an attack on U.S. soil again. And until September 11, 2012, everyone thought we would always run to the aid of Americans under attack.

Racial Profiling, The Next Manufactured Crisis

The “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” theme is a lie that the media, Obama, Holder, St. Louis Rams and the other race baiters want to perpetuate. Never mind that the evidence in the Brown shooting proves that Brown got what was coming to him. The lesson, and the point they ought to be making is, 1) don’t rob people, 2) don’t assault a cop, 3) don’t try to disarm a cop, and 4) when a cop has his gun out, pointing it at you and telling you to stop, do what he says.

Now Obama and Holder are talking about racial profiling. And saying that there is “unfairness” in law enforcement between cops (especially White ones) and kids in the hood. I could not disagree more. Because when you look at the facts in the Brown case, that thug would have met the same fate regardless of the color of his skin. Dead is dead. That is as fair as it could possibly be.

Instead of Hands Up, Don”t Shoot! The chant should be “Pants Up, Don’t Loot!

St. Louis Teens Gone Wild

Four teenagers in St. Louis (near Ferguson) attacked a car and killed the driver with hammers.

Zemir Begic was heading home from a bar at 1:15 a.m in St Louis when a group of teenagers surrounded his car and began banging on it. The gang of teenagers used hammers to beat a newlywed to death in front of his wife and friend after they attacked his car early on Sunday morning in an apparently random attack.

The kicker is . . .

Police said Begic was not targeted for being Bosnian and did not say if there was a connection to unrest after Ferguson grand jury decision.

My guess is that the four kids out roaming the streets with hammers were not out there looking for roofing jobs. Strange that the race of the attackers was not given. Why would the police even proffer that the victim was not targeted because of being Bosnian if the little hoodlums were not Black?

It is obvious that they used those hammers for what they intended to use them for. Bet you a cheesesteak that those kids have no clue what a Bosnian is? Probably think it is some kind of doughnut.

No chance this was a revenge killing? I mean, the picture of the Bosnian sure looks like a White guy. But since the race of the attackers is not given, I guess we will have to wait for the investigation to unfold. No need for President Obama, Eric Holder, or Jessie Sharpton to get involved before the facts are out. Oh, wait.

Where are our legislators calling for the “Begic Bill?” A law restricting possession of hammers.

It is past time to get serious and stamp down this kind of idiotic, criminal behavior. And to stop making excuses for it. The anger at work here was created by and festered by Democrats running that city and this country. Compounded by a welfare system that replaces parental responsibility and incentivizes broken families. The anger ought to be directed at the politicians in Washington who respond to things like this with more welfare and less responsibility. The Obama administration has dealt minorities the highest unemployment and falling average family incomes. That is part of the problem. But still, is no excuse to go out there and kill anybody.
