Topics like this didn’t used to be political in nature. But through no fault of lawful gun owners everywhere, anything to do with a gun has become a political issue.
In the interest of gun safety, on February 9, 2013, there is an event at the Escambia River Gun Club for women only that you should know about. Looks like a good chance for ladies to get some expert experience and advice from NRA Certified Pistol Instructors.
Here we go again. Pick out the enemy, isolate it, demagogue it if that’s what it takes to win your point. It works whether it’s nationalizing health care or winning elections. It’s a tactic outlined in Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals and explains to a ‘T’ why this administration does what it does. This time the subject is controlling guns and everything associated with it. If you’re not for gun control, then you must want school children to die. The low-information crowd eat that up and, with this administration, there’s an unlimited amount of ‘feed’ to be had.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who’s leading the push to restore an assault weapon ban, acknowledged on Sunday that the effort faces tough odds to pass Congress and she blamed the nation’s largest gun-rights group.
This time the perceived enemy is the NRA. That’s only because they can’t run against the founding fathers for writing the second amendment. They can’t openly run against the Constitution. Just like they couldn’t openly run against ‘health care.’ So they made health insurance companies the bad guy and campaigned against them. The result of the current gun control push, if successful, is likely to end up with the same disastrous results as the Affordable Care Act. Where everything it was promised to do failed.
Through my unscientific poll of Facebook posts, people are saying that the lines to get into the gun shows in Pensacola, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Miami are the longest ever. Since the gun store shelves are almost empty and out of ammo, I have to believe that President Obama wins the ‘Top Gun’ Salesman of the Year award.
It was heartening to see so many people getting CWP (Concealed Weapons Permit) training. Young, old, Black, White, and everywhere in between. And they weren’t all republicans either. Believe it or not, democrats believe in personal protection too. Contrary to Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Barack Obama’s argument, I didn’t see any gang members or gang bangers there buying guns. I saw everyone there that was buying, filling out the required paperwork and going through the background check procedure.
The laws of supply and demand have affected the firearms industry, at least at the retail level. Weapons like the AR15 that was $600-700 three months ago, are now between $2000 -3000. Ammo? You’re lucky if you find what you’re looking for. There was no 40 caliber range ammo, which was what I was looking for. I later found some, at before hysterical (over $1.00/round) prices too, at a local shop off the beaten path. Not at the gun show. The name of which shall stay my secret. You’ll have to email me to get it.
In celebration of Gun Appreciation Day, I went to the Escambia River Gun Club shooting range to get some practice. My guest and I had a great time. We both decided we needed to hit the range more often than once or twice a year.
Coincidentally, the Club was conducting a CWP (Concealed Weapon Permit) class too. It was a pretty good size class with 42 people getting expert training from 21 qualified trainers. I was pleasantly surprised to see so many women getting qualified. It’s a beautiful thing.
I can’t speak for all gun clubs, but this one offers CWP training, and they take it seriously. If you’re thinking of getting the training to qualify for a conceal carry permit, this is an excellent place to go. The CWP class is a few hours at the range, and a few hours in a classroom setting. Much more than you will get at say, the gun show CWP class. Check out their website for dates and details.
Since there was so much going on at the range today, I grabbed some pictures.
Remember when President Obama said this at his anti-gun pep rally yesterday?
40 percent of all gun purchases are conducted without a background check.
Here’s where he had to go to come up with that bogus (for 2013) number. Now watch how many news sources in the mainstream media will report the truth about Obama’s “statistic” that is his main justification for panic and new gun laws.
The dubious statistic of guns that avoided background checks — which is actually 36 percent — comes from a small 251-person survey on gun sales two decades ago, very early in the Clinton administration. Most of the survey covered sales before the Brady Act instituted mandatory federal background checks in early 1994.
“If Obama’s gun control case is so strong, why can’t he make it without using cooked numbers, or surrounding himself with children?” Like a good community organizer will do, if you don’t have a crisis, make one up if it will help your cause.
More meaningless rhetoric from the Imperial Ruler (aka President Obama) today, on executive orders and other demands that will do nothing to stop the kind of violence he and VP Biden want to stop, no matter how many cute children they use for props. The most intriguing statement was this one . . .
And finally, Congress needs to help, rather than hinder, law enforcement as it does its job. We should get tougher on people who buy guns with the express purpose of turning around and selling them to criminals. And we should severely punish anybody who helps them do this.
Considering that the Dept. of Justice and its ATF did exactly that in a program called Fast and Furious, I guess we can expect Eric Holder to turn himself in after rounding up all the others that were involved with it. Lucky for President Obama, the Freetown shooting did what Fast and Furious failed to do. It presented a crisis to jump on to. And when there’s an agenda involved, you just can’t let a crisis go to waste.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for anyone in the DOJ to pay any price for Fast and Furious. If the media isn’t interested in pursuing it, then it must not have happened.
Within hours of the school shooting in Newtown, CT, the political Left have fed on the emotions of Americans to convince us that they can stop this kind of crime if they can only ban so-called “assault weapons.” Problem for them is how to violate the Constitution and get away with it. That’s a BIG problem. Unlike our current President and his accomplices in this attempt, the mainstream media, Atty. Gen. Eric Holder and VP Joe Biden, our U.S. House Rep. Jeff Miller (R-FL1), takes his oath and the Constitution seriously.
What Miller says on this subject . . .
Interest groups, politicians, and the Administration should not be exploiting a national tragedy to abandon liberty in pursuit of political expedience and advantage, rather, we should all comprehensively examine the policies, practices, and culture which lead to mass violence. Additionally, any attempt by the President to enact gun control by executive order would be an obscene abuse of power, ungrounded in Constitutional authority, and tantamount to a violation of his oath to support and defend the Constitution.
For nearly 240 years, the right to keep and bear arms has stood the test of time, and I will continue to stand by those courageous citizens who follow in the footsteps of generations of American patriots and who through their sacrifice dare defend and protect the written words of our Founding Fathers.
And by ‘Lobby’ I mean most of the media and lefty talk-radio. It’s about calling names and using hyperbole for measures that no one is advocating. It’s what the Left does. Not necessarily democrats. Just those that hold this ‘ban all guns’ and ‘ban assault weapons’ agenda.
It’s not just the ranters on the left, like MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell, who recently called National Rifle Association chief Wayne LaPierre “the lobbyist for mass murderers.” O’Donnell is a controversialist who says things like that all the time. So is CNN’s Piers Morgan, who told the Gun Owners of America chief Larry Pratt, “You are an unbelievably stupid man” and “You shame your country.”
And . . .
when a Republican congressman, Georgia’s Jack Kingston, argued on MSNBC recently that tough gun control laws haven’t prevented mass shootings in some European countries, the network’s anchor, Thomas Roberts, responded, “So, we need to just be complacent in the fact that we can send our children to school to be assassinated?”
Then there’s Lefty talker Stephanie Miller and the Media Matters crowd that say, in response to NRA President Wayne LaPierre’s suggestion that there be a police presence in schools, (like we have here in Pensacola, FL, they are called ‘resource officers’), “oh sure, like we can afford to have a cop in every classroom.” Nobody suggested a cop for every classroom. Proving that the Left will say whatever they need to say if it will advance their agenda. The facts don’t matter.
There are ways to save lives without banning guns. Do away with so-called ‘gun-free’ zones and get real with lawful ‘concealed carry.’ It’s already against the law for a mentally unstable person to buy a gun. But clearly, improvements can be made in the mental health field if it weren’t for the ACLU. Groups like them advocate for part of the Constitution. Not all of it. Make punishment meaningful for crimes committed with guns. A bad person with a gun can be stopped by a good person with a gun. Whether the good person wears a badge or a pocket protector, lives of fellow citizens can be protected.
Belly up to the counter. Politics are on the menu and Ross is on the grill.
