Combat Women? Can’t Pass Muster

Unfettered by failure, and with a memory shorter than sixty days, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Maj. Gen. Bennet Sacolick, director of force marine_femalemanagement for U.S. Special Operations Command, are seemingly willing to lower standards in order to put women in the most physically demanding of military roles.

Back in April, the results of this experiment proved that women in the most demanding roles can’t cut it. No shame there. Just a fact of life.

Remember Our Fallen Veterans

They died to save and protect the country they love. They understood the cost of freedom and liberty.

I’m pretty sure they didn’t die to fundamentally change it.

May God Bless them and their families. And God Bless America!

A Conservative’s Call To Action

In his book Liberty and Tyranny, Mark Levin artfully presents a harmonious marriage of the timeless with the timely. On the one hand, the book is a thorough yet compact briefing on the major political issues of this era. On the other hand, he brings to bear the principles of the American Founders and Framers of the Constitution (and the great thinkers who guided them), illustrating, dissecting, and explaining our current political arguments, while enlightening the reader with the genuine wisdom bequeathed to all of us — the sacred trust of the Founders, embodied in the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and Federalist Papers, all of which are quoted and applied with insight and precision.

In the epilogue, below, Levin breaks down the labels in politics to the point where the language means something, and what the labels really represent. He calls it A Conservative Manifesto. And it is, or should be, our call to action to turn this ship called the United States of America around from where we are headed. And chart the course made by our founding documents and founding fathers.

Not only does he break it down into ten points, but he makes the point that this is not going to happen if we are spectators. We must be activist by comparison. Participate and get involved where you can, beginning at the kitchen table. If you want to be part of the solution, this is where we and the people we elect need to go.

Gregg Allman Coming To Pensacola

You can’t have grown up in the 60’s and not also have grown with the Allman Bros. Band. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

It is the band that started the genre known as Southern Rock. 50 years later, I always look forward to seeing them, or in this case, Gregg and his band. He’s coming to Pensacola July 12, 2013.

To say that the Allman Brothers Band has had an effect on my life would be an understatement. I remember vividly in 1969, or was it 1970? (grin) Standing on the floor, in the Spectrum in Philly, about 20 feet from the stage and a tower of loudspeakers. I think the ticket price was about $6 back then. It is the reason my hearing in my left ear now is pretty much shot. Not complaining. I have to say even now, it was still worth it.

Where’s The Outrage?

A day after an Islamic jihadist beheaded a Brit in an unprovoked attack in broad daylight, the political correctness has taken over reality yet again.  Don’t tie it to Islam, although it is a terrorist attack, we are told. BS. It is inextricably tied to Islam. And Islam needs to fix it. It can begin in the Mosques. They can have sensitivity training to teach potential jihadists that there is no war on Islam. And people of other religions are not an enemy of Islam. And despite what the Koran says, it is against Islam to subjugate or kill non-believers.

I have yet to see any evidence that a so-called war on Islam exists, as is claimed by this piece of shit with a knife and cleaver in his blood-soaked hands. By all accounts in news that I’ve seen, there is a war on so-called infidels, aka non-believers of Islam, going on. And that’s not an exaggeration. That’s what they profess. And this is what they do.

Seeing this picture brings up all kinds of frustration with PC and anger for the ‘tolerance’ of it. It is reported that this terrorist’s accomplice had a handgun. Brits are not allowed to carry handguns. So, the law-abiding citizens are prey to the criminals and terrorists that have them.

My gut reaction to punish these murderers had me thinking of something particularly gruesome, and appropriate for the cruelty he drawn-and-quarteredinflicted upon that innocent victim. Tractor pulls came to mind; with the criminal tied between two tractors with a rope on one leg and the other around his neck. Upon discussing this method of execution with a history buff, he suggested drawn and quartering, like used to be done centuries ago. Ropes tied to each of the four limbs of the condemned, and four horses attached to each rope. Upon direction then running ‘off’ in four different directions. Brilliant idea befitting the crime. The condemned wouldn’t die immediately by ripping his head off. Instead, he would have a little time to ponder his demise in pain. And, it’s environmentally friendly. No fossil fuels to burn to get the job done.

Fortunately for the terrorists, current laws don’t allow such forms of execution. With all the attention paid to ‘fairness’ in recent years, don’t you think a little fairness in execution is in order? And instead of doing it in the public square or in the middle of the street, make it a pay-per-view event. Use the proceeds to protect our Embassies abroad and enhance security at home. Being a little pragmatic about the whole idea, and in anticipation that such a suggestion for use of the proceeds might not sit well with some, I would concede to use the proceeds to fund Planned Parenthood instead of the federal funding it is taking from taxpayers. Funding Planned Parenthood with the proceeds would be an added incentive to track them down. I could see that getting bi-partisan support.

OK, I feel better now. Just trying to be helpful.

Feeling any outrage yourself? Get it off your chest. You’ll feel better.

Behavioral Rehabilitation For Fido

After reading a disturbing story about a couple arrested on animal cruelty charges for starving their animals to death, and not given any jail time for it, there is this one that shows some hope for humanity. Something new, a Behavioral Rehabilitation Center for animals that are victims of abuse. Animals that, absent rehabilitative treatment, would likely face euthanasia.

People want their dog to be a friend, not afraid. But sometimes, fear grips dogs so tightly they shake, cower, bite, growl or pee. It can be constant, painful and hard to overcome. Such dread can consume a dog when it’s freed from a cage at a puppy mill or hoarder’s home because that’s the only life the dog has ever known.

Technical Difficulty “Fixed”

If you were wondering where the “comment” feature to posts went, that makes two of us. I have “fixed” it (for now anyways) and you should once again have the ability to comment to a post by hitting the “Comment” link at the bottom of every post.

Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Really, I am.

ross

OK, so it still wasn’t fixed when I said it was. It just “looked” like it was fixed. Now, it’s fixed. I just tested it and no server error bullshit. Lesson learned is that the “jetpack” utilities for WP seem to break as much as they fix. Deleting the jetpack comment module seems to have fixed the problem.

One thing you can bank on. It won’t cost you “one dime” more.

Shepherds And Sheep

To say that there is a clash of ideologies to the point where there is no room for (I’m going to use a PC word) compromise is putting it mildly. Regardless of the motive, good intentions or the need to control, the end result of a government-controlling society does not last or work.

A good read on this subject from Thomas Sowell entitled Shepherds and Sheep. Here’s an excerpt . . .

John Stuart Mill’s classic essay “On Liberty” gives reasons why some people should not be taking over other people’s decisions about their own lives. But Professor Cass Sunstein of Harvard has given reasons to the contrary. He cites research showing “that people make a lot of mistakes, and that those mistakes can prove extremely damaging.”

Professor Sunstein is undoubtedly correct that “people make a lot of mistakes.” Most of us can look back over our own lives and see many mistakes, including some that were very damaging.

What Cass Sunstein does not tell us is what sort of creatures, other than people, are going to override our mistaken decisions for us. That is the key flaw in the theory and agenda of the left.

Compromise won’t end the clash or “solve” the issue. People will have to suck it up and decide which one is best for the American dream. That which has made America the greatest country in the world in just a couple hundred years, or something else?
