Wazzup?

Well, we’re back from a quickie vacation. Went a whole week without browsing the net or looking at network or cable news. That, in and of itself, also seems to have some benefits. The stay in Las Vegas was fun, not counting walking down the strip in 106 degree temperature.

Will probably return without the kids next time. 😉

Take Five For A Good Movie

If you’re not old enough to know why Ronald Regan was so well liked, even his political opponents liked him, you really should see this video. And for us old farts who knew him, it will do you good to see him again. His wit and sense of humor crossed all boundaries. H/T to Ft. Hard Knox for the video.

Hugo Chaves’ Version Of The ‘Fairness Doctrine’

The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, answered critics of his government who say he is “becoming increasingly authoritarian and cracking down on dissent” by saying that foreigners who publicly criticize him or his government while visiting Venezuela will be expelled from the country.

“How long are we going to allow a person — from any country in the world — to come to our own house to say there’s a dictatorship here, that the president is a tyrant, and nobody does anything about it?” Chavez asked during his weekly television and radio program.

Sounds eerily familiar doesn’t it? Proponents of the Fairness Doctrine appear to have a lot in common with the hemisphere’s idiot.

Democrat Leaders Indifferent To Life, Freedom

For the party that claims the human rights mantle, and are just consumed with concern over what the world thinks of us, “Our reputation around the world” has become the preamble to stump speeches by Democrats. So in that context it is astonishing how little concern these same Democrats in Washington have for the Iraqi people who hear them talk about leaving Iraq on a daily basis.

The millions of Iraqis that were glad to be rid of Saddam and voted for the first time to govern themselves and live in freedom, are still living in a war zone. Their army and security forces are not yet able to protect themselves against Iran and al-Qaeda. The Iraqi people are seeing their hopes and dreams for freedom be doused by impatient politicians in Washington. So the Americans (if you listen to the Dems) are now willing to leave them for al-Qaeda to deal with.

What kind of human being will go in to a country (remember ‘you go in there and you own it’?) and tear it apart, tell the people there that we’re going to help you get setup as a free people, and then leave before fulfilling that promise?

Is this what they mean when they say that Bush has hurt the reputation of the United States around the world? Do they really believe that leaving Iraq to become a terrorist haven while setting up its population for slaughter will improve our image?

Phillies Make Baseball History

The Philadelphia Phillies faced the inevitable tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals. After hFans hold up signs acknowledging the Phillies 10,000th loss, the most by any team in any sport.olding off the Cards for the last two games in the 3-game series, the Phils lost 10-2 that included 6 home runs from the Cardinals. The Phillies also win the distinction of being the first team in professional baseball to reach its 10,000th loss, at home.

From Connie Mack Stadium to the Vet and Citizens Bank Park, and at ballparks all over, the Phillies have cemented their place as the losingest team in professional sports. The franchise, born in 1883 as the Philadelphia Quakers and later called the Blue Jays in the mid-1940s, fell to 8,810-10,000.

They are the first, but won’t be the last. After all, it took them 124 years to lose 10,000 games.

Survivor ‘08, Clinton / Edwards Alliance

Forget Big Brother 8, how about Survivor ’08? In case you haven’t heard it, candidate wannabes Mrs. Bill Clinton and John Edwards had a brief conversation while at the democratic party debates hosted by the NAACP. Clinton’s strategy is to cut out as many lower tier candidates from future debates.

Not about to get thrown off the island, Hillary has started making alliances, making others on the island a bit nervous. Edwards should check into armor for his back before doing anything with Clinton. More on this at Gribbits Word.

Freedom Concerts, For The Right Reason

Last night, the first of five Freedom Concerts played in Atlanta, Ga.. I’m not finding even one news article about the sell-out audience in Atlanta. The proceeds and all donations are used to provide college educations for the kids of our fallen soldiers. And also for those who would rather get a technical school degree, or require special educational needs. Whichever, it’s paid for.

“We get up and take care of kids and we live our lives and don’t have to worry about liberty and freedom,” Hannity says. “We get to have all these fun times because of the soldiers’ enormous sacrifice. This is a way to honor them.”

Lets contrast this with The Live Earth Concert, that world-wide concert extravaganza to save the earth managed to raise no money to contribute towards that cause. Since there was no ‘profit’ realized from the shows, the word is that the concerts were to raise public awareness for global warming. As if Algore’s science fiction movie hadn’t already done that. We’ve seen it mentioned in the news on an almost daily basis, so that couldn’t be the reason. It took Robert Kennedy Jr. to say what it was really about. It’s about criminalizing differing opinions and promoting political activism, at this supposedly non-political event.

“Get rid of all these rotten politicians that we have in Washington, who are nothing more than corporate toadies … This is treason. And we need to start treating them as traitors,” said Kennedy.

It was about his political socialist ideology and anti-capitalistic agenda of these ‘progressive’ types. Progressive, Socialist, the words are interchangeable. Government good, business bad. Kennedy did an excellent job of portraying the anti-establishment hippies of the 60’s. It’s almost like he never evolved beyond that.

The media however did cover the Live Earth event both in the ‘news’ and the on-air broadcast of it.

Between the two events, which event was non-political? Which one have you heard about in the media?

See Kennedy’s performance on Levin Papantonio Television, or rather, goLeft TV. The agenda begins after around 3 min. and 40 seconds into the 6 minute video. If you can watch it for that long.
