Truth Is The Poor Are Getting Richer

Want to tic off a liberal who says that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer? U.S. Income MobilityShow them this report from the Treasury Department that exposes those claims as so much “populist hokum.” The reason it will tic them off is obvious. It takes the wind right out of their class warfare, class envy sails. The reality is that over the last 10 years, the lowest quintile of working people have seen the largest percent increase in their income, 90.5%. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the highest quintile realized an increase of 10 % over the same time period.

A closer examination of that highest quintile, the upper 20% of working people, highlights even more the fallacy of the left’s argument about the rich getting richer. When you look at the top 10 percent of the highest quintile, that is to say, the top ten percent of income earners, they saw their incomes actually decline to the point where the top 1 percent, the ‘filthy rich’, were the biggest losers. Their income decreased by a whopping 25%.

The great irony is that, in the name of reducing inequality, some of our politicians want to raise taxes and other government obstacles to the kind of risk-taking and hard work that allow Americans to climb the income ladder so rapidly. As the Treasury data show, we shouldn’t worry about inequality. We should worry about the people who use inequality as a political club to promote policies that reduce opportunity.

Key findings. . .

  • There was considerable income mobility of individuals in the U.S. economy during the 1996 through 2005 period with roughly half of taxpayers who began in the bottom quintile moving up to a higher income group within 10 years.
  • About 55 percent of taxpayers moved to a different income quintile within 10 years.
  • Among those with the very highest incomes in 1996, the top 1/100 of 1 percent, only 25 percent remained in this group in 2005. Moreover, the median real income of these taxpayers declined over this period.
  • The degree of mobility among income groups is unchanged from the prior decade (1987 through 1996).
  • Economic growth resulted in rising incomes for most taxpayers over the period from 1996 to 2005. Median incomes of all taxpayers increased by 24 percent after adjusting for inflation.
  • The real incomes of two-thirds of all taxpayers increased over this period. In addition, the median incomes of those initially in the lower income groups increased more than the median incomes of those initially in the higher income groups.

Waterboarding Is Not Torture

Waterboarding is waterboarding.

Torture looks like this, and this .

And it often ends up like this.

beheaded american

For a look at what torture is like, just look at the torture manual used by our enemy.

Waterboarding is a method of interrogation that appeals to the most basic of animal or human instinct, survival. It works. It is the only interrogation technique that a subject can walk to and walk away from with not so much as a mark on their body. The interrogatee can go on to a good nights sleep. Unlike the pictures of what constitutes real torture.

Lawyers Being Rounded Up, In US?

Pakistani President Musharraf has his hands full to say the least. He is rounding up protestLawyer Round-Up In Pakistaners who also happen to be lawyers. Or is he rounding up lawyers because they are the protesters? No word yet whether that would be good for global warming.

It’s a tough call.
And on the domestic front, lawyers face another challenge. They are being caught breaking the law. Imagine that? Officers of the court and all. I guess it shows more than anything else that lawyers are not unlike people in other occupations.

But, not everyone thinks that way. Class action attorney, and Host of the Ring of Fire show on Air America Radio, Mike Papantonio thinks there is a conspiracy in this country to single out the BIG LAW attorneys, like himself.

Mike Papantonio, a trial attorney in Florida, believes the recent indictments are part of “a design to dismantle the plaintiffs bar.”

A little tort reform never hurt anybody. I’ll never forget a piece of advice I got from an attorney for free. And that was, don’t break the law and you won’t need me.

The Empire Strikes Back, Over Mukasey

I knew the Soros wing of the Democrat party would be ticked off over the Senate Judiciary Committee taking steps Thursday to send his name out of committee and to the Senate floor for a vote, where he will most likely be confirmed as Attorney General, replacing Alberto Gonzalez. The left’s reaction is a Donor Strike.

In 2006, the voters of America elected Democratic majorities to the Senate and House in order to end the occupation of Iraq and restore the Constitution of the United States. We, the Netroots, helped elect Democratic majorities with large contributions of money, time, and passion.

Unfortunately Congressional Democrats have surrendered to George Bush and Dick Cheney on all of the issues we care about most: Iraq, Iran, warrantless wiretapping, torture, and habeas corpus.

We recognize that “Bush Democrats” are primarily to blame for Democratic failures, and we will do whatever we can to change their minds – or replace them with true Democrats in 2008. But we cannot wait until then to fix the urgent problems we face.

We will therefore begin a donor strike against the official fundraising committees for Senate Democrats (DSCC) and House Democrats (DCCC) until our core demands are met.

We will instead contribute only to individual candidates who firmly support the values of the Democratic Party and the American people, as certified by BlueAmerica and Progressive Challenge 2008.

Two things should be obvious about their reaction. That they believe, as they said themselves after the 2004 election, that they have bought and paid for the Democrat party with their campaign contributions, and that they expect the Democrats in Washington to obey. The other thing that is obvious is just how effective their money was in influencing the Democrats in Washington. Or to put it another way, just how easily Democrats in Washington can be influenced by money. Like, having no belief system of their own, they adopt the one from their donors. They echo their sentiments and believe that they had a mandate from the American people. How many times have we heard that from Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid? In reality, it was only a mandate from them, a well financed and well organized group of about 400,000 activists.

They are making plans to send what they call the ‘Bush Democrats’ packing. Their arrogance is off the charts.

Hillary may have had a turning point last Tuesday, but the Democrat Party itself may be having one of its own. The netroots, or nutroots, will now only be giving money to individual politicians who pass their litmus test on the issues that they care about. How these Democrats react will be their own litmus test.

Hillary Needs Cash, What?

The Clinton Campaign lost its footing just a bit with Hillary’s performance at Tuesday’s debate. She fell off her script when Tim Russert asked her whether she supports NY Governor Elliot Spitzer’s plan to issue drivers licenses to people in this country illegally. There are about a million of them in New York State according to Hillary. Hillary’s handlers all feel that Tim Russert was out to get her for some reason. One of them suggesting that he should be shot. I’m assuming that was hyperbole, but it shows how much they hate to be pressed for an answer that might give a clue as to what she really believes. Her campaign came out the next day to further explain her response to that Yes/No question.

Classic Clinton. They want to shoot the messenger. In this case, Tim Russert. That’s what they do. The fact that her campaign has their thongs all twisted up over being asked a most relevant question for a New York Senator about a New York governor is just hilarious.

“Clinton was unfairly targeted” and “The other candidates were asked questions like, ‘Is there life in outer space?’ ”

And, unfortunately for Hillary, none of the other presidential wannabes’ constituencies are in the State of New York, which explains why Russert asked her first and not the others. It’s a perfectly valid question to ask her and he would have been negligent if he or Williams had not asked it.

Pressing her on that question didn’t make Russert a bully. How else can the American People learn what she believes? As she has found out, dodging a question during a debate made her look pretty inadequate.

Now that her Chinese connection has apparently dried up, and in the course of 24 hours, they feel they need a lot of money, fast.

Mark Penn, Clinton’s senior strategist and pollster, and Jonathan Mantz, the campaign’s finance director, told the supporters on the call, which The Hill listened to in its entirety, that they expect attacks from Clinton’s rivals to continue, and she will need the financial resources to deflect their attacks.

Hardly anyone saw it. It was on MSNBC. While the Clinton Campaign and the far-left blogosphere whine over Tim Russert as being too tough on her, they should be thanking their lucky stars that it wasn’t worse.

Tim Russert’s play last night was not only nakedly sexist, but showed his immaturity and lack of respect for any woman standing up to be commander-in-chief.

Sexist? Hillary? No way.

A person wanting to be Commander in Chief should be able to answer any question from anyone. Even Brit Hume and Chris Wallace.

Both Tim Russert and Brian Williams deserve the “Chris Matthews Award” for avoiding to ask any of the presidential wannabes about Iran supplying 107 mm rockets and super-penetrating IED’s to the terrorists in Iraq that are killing Iraqis and our soldiers. I know the Clinton Campaign would disagree but the moderators didn’t go far enough. I think they did the best they could to make it more like “Softball.”

Harry Reid’s “Smear Letter” Results

The sale of Harry Reid’s attack letter (signed by 41 senators, some presidential wannabes, all Democrats) on the free speech of a private citizen, Rush Limbaugh, breaks eBay’s record for a charitable donation sale. Previous to this the record was $800,000 for one of Jay Leno’s motocycles. This historic document, four pieces of paper, went to Betty Casey for $2,100,100 yesterday. Limbaugh’s press release here, including the philanthropic background of Betty Casey.

And for the most ridiculous item of the day (MRIOTD), Sen. Harry Reid’s pathetic attempt to take some credit for the eBay auction.

Have you noticed the virtual blackout on this letter and what exactly it represents in the mainstream media?

PDF of the infamous and historical letter, signed by Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Harry Reid, Dick Durbin, Charles Schumer, and my own Bill Nelson among others.

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), Here’s Your Answer

During Sen. Reid’s harangue of Rush Limbaugh, a private citizen, on the floor of the Senate, he says this about spewing hate at our troops. “I can’t help but wonder how my Republican colleagues would have reacted if the tables were turned — if a well-known Democratic radio personality had used the same insulting line of attack against troops who support the war.” Harry, you wouldn’t understand so I’ll type real slow.

“I can’t help but wonder how my Republican colleagues would have reacted ”

That’s easy. There wouldn’t be any reaction because they don’t read Media Matters crap as fact. Its easy because he didn’t say what he is being accused of saying, and they might have bothered to listen to him first-hand.

No big deal, just another rabid lib. That’s how they would have reacted.

This is of course a hypothetical question. You first have to have a well-known Democratic radio personality.

I think he really meant Liberal, not Democratic.  As if Rush is a Republican radio personality.   I disagree that Rush is a Republican radio personality.  He is a conservative radio personality.  Republicans and conservatives are two different entities nowadays.  The whole border issue revealed that.  Regardless, dominant liberal or Democrat radio personalities don’t exist.

Democrats Slander Rush Limbaugh On Senate Floor

The Dems’ resolution would be funny if it was a joke. But they’re serious, and blatantly uninformed. No, they’re not uninformed, they are misinforming the public about Limbaugh in an attempt to minimize his impact. In other words, the entire Democrat party is afraid of one lovable little fuzzball. That’s what’s funny about it.

I remember Patsy Schroeder on the floor of the House several years ago, saying how Rush bought his mother a new can opener to open her canned food, dog food. It was Rush just being Rush by illustrating a point with absurdity. But Schroeder believed what someone told her Rush said instead of what he actually said, and repeated that line as a fact on the floor of the House of Representatives. Within a few days she became the laughing stock of the House of Representatives.

We all know that libs have no sense of humor, which puts them at a genetic disadvantage. Now Harry Reid apparently believes what Media Matters tells him “what Rush said” which was not what Rush said. The phony soldiers, plural, like MacBeth and Scott Thomas Beauchamp with their phony stories. Those phony soldiers, and there are more than just those two. He wasn’t speaking of real soldiers or of real soldiers that don’t agree with the war. But facts just get in the way.

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV). . .

Rush Limbaugh took it upon himself to attack the courage and character of those fighting and dying for him and for all of us. Rush Limbaugh got himself a deferment from serving when he was a young man. He never served in uniform. He never saw in person the extreme difficulty of maintaining peace in a foreign country engaged in a civil war. He never saw a person in combat. Yet, that he thinks his opinion on the war is worth more than those who have been on the front lines.

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa)

Maybe he was just high on his drugs. I don’t know.

Harry Reid (and the rest of their party and the mainstream media) only had to check out Rush’s website to see the webcam video of the conversation. But no, they’re much too busy. They will instead take the word of Media Matters, a George Soros funded group that provide most of the talking points for the MSM.

Reid and his cohorts in the slander-Rush-chorus show themselves to be fools and tools of the Soros wing of the Democrat Party.

Sorry Charlie

Charlie Rose interviews former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan tonight.  Was funny watching Charlie Rose spending 10 minutes trying to get Greenspan to say that Rumsfeld and Cheney were idiots.  No headlines on that one. Sorry Charlie!

He correctly explained the difference between the media’s slant on his words about oil and Iraq and his own.  Now Charlie understands it, as much as it appeared to hurt.

Congresswoman Bolts From Hearing, Of Progress

Qualifying for the most ridiculous item of the day try this. Rep. Nancy Boyda (D-KS) ran out of an Armed Services Committee hearing when retired Gen. Jack Keane described positive developments in Iraq. The purpose of the hearing was to inform Congress on the situation in Iraq. She then accused the General for further dividing the country by his assessment of progress with the war in Iraq. What’s wrong with this picture?

It’s what happens when your party is invested in defeat. I hope the good people of Kansas will make a different choice when Boyda’s term expires.
