First Amendment Upheld By Supremes

Freedom of political speech wins today in the Supreme Court of the United States.  Overturning part of the debacle called McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform.

Organizations of any size may pool their resources together and say whatever they wish to say about a candidate, pro or con. Freedom of speech is no longer a slogan. It is enforceable now under the Constitution.

Of course, the fact that it had to go to the Supreme Court to be tested is ridiculous. But it is confirmed now.

  1. The poll question is skewed? I thought I captured the essence of NO, as in ‘Congress shall make NO law.’

How would you pose the question?

Also, to the first Anon (I’m assuming maybe it is the same person), regarding the fear that money is the problem. Here’s where I see it as described in Mocking McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform

The premise that special interests, aka money, are corrupting the politicians and that laws need to be made to limit the money, totally misses the point. If anyone is corrupt, it is the politician that does a quid pro quo or who otherwise breaks the law in money laundering and/or takes bribes like William Jefferson (D-La) did. It’s not the donor, it’s what the recipient does. Don’t re-elect a crook.

Going against the letter and spirit of the 1st Amendment is, aside from being unconstitutional, like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

  2. Your poll question is skewed and just slightly ridiculous, and you know it. Or you should. Hyperbole much?

  3. This means we will all have to work much harder for campaign finance reform. There is no way that this decision means anything good will come of it, this is not free speech, it is out and out buying of our politicians, as if that weren’t already a huge problem.
